CPL 2.0 Twitter

I read most of the library tweets. They were brief info about library programs, events. Libraries could also promote on-line resources and book recommendations. I see some usefulness for short info bits but I don't feel this is something I will personally use.

cpl 2.0 Librarything

I found Librarything difficult to navigate. I was excited at the idea of it as a tool to keep lists of books read and finding new ones to read. With the limited time I had to look at it, I was not able to navigate it easily and will not recommend it to customers until I have enough time to investigate further.

CPL 2.0 Google Docs

I tried Google Docs and Google Calendar. I really like the idea of writing documents on Google Docs and being able to read it on any computer connected to the internet. I foresee using this for my personal use. What will the future for Microsoft be it this is available free.
I made entries in the calendar but was not able to sync to my Outlook calendar. I will have to look at that further.

CPL 2.0 Flickr & You Tube

I didn't have a photo to use on Flickr but I watched other staff modify theirs. It did seem to pose some challenges and wasn't always that easy to use.
I viewed your suggestions on YouTube but couldn't figure out how to search for something of interest to me. There was an article in the Globe and Mail on Monday May 10, 2010 which described students learning math on YouTube using MisterNumbers which surprised me. I do understand that YouTube is like Wikipedia in that anyone can post anything be it correct or incorrect. Interesting!

cpl 2.0 bloglines

I found it really easy to create an account. I am still learning how to select sites that I want to stay current with. I found some sites were very easy to add and others more challenging. I am excited at the prospect of using this in my personal life.

CPL 2.0 Google

I like and enjoy Google images. It is easy to search and a large assortment of images come up. A drawback is that depending on a person's need, the images can be too small to be useful. I would definitely recommend it to friends, colleagues and customers.

CPL2.0 Facebook

I can see Facebook would be useful in keeping in touch with family and friends in far away places - current news, photos, etc. Personally, I find it time consuming and definitely not my first choice. I use e-mail and text to meet my needs for staying connected to family in Toronto and Melbourne, Australia.

2.0 Wikipedia

I spent a lot of time looking for an article to edit. I finally found one that had a grammatical error. The actual editing was very easy - even too easy - click on "edit this page", make the change and save! This emphasized the potential for incorrect info being in an article.

2.0 Best Websites & Delicious

I enjoyed re-discovering the Best Websites on Delicious. I found info links to information that I had used extensively in the past and thought was gone. The tags and bundles on the right hand side made it easy to use. Sadly, the link to find my Alderman did not work but the MLA link did. When I go directly to Delicious.com, I find it overwhelming, hard to find credible info and the colour of the text hard to read. I am excited to start using Best Websites again to answer customer questions.

I hope to get an understanding of different forms of electronic communication over the next weeks.
